Parking at Playland was free during Physics Day last year. q A group of 3-4 students to work with the whole day. Pass on this information to absent students and get them worksheets. q This information package and worksheet. q A pencil and calculator. At least one camera per group to record your ride. q At least one watch or timer per group. You need to know the time and be able to verify the timing of the movie. q There are accelerometer and angle apps for smartphones. but there are lots, let me know if you find a good one. q The distance of one of your paces. You will measure distances by pacing them out at the park. Measure the distance of 10 paces and determine the distance per pace. My pace is about 70 cm.
Timeline
9:00 Meet Mr. Klaassen at the Exhibition Bowl. We will hand out wristbands and choose a student to ride the revelation. Call if you will be very late or are sick or lost.
9:30 Listen to the instructions from the Playland organizers and (possibly) watch science demos.
9:45(roughly) Gates to Playland open to admit students.
10:00 – 1:45 Carry out pre-planned activities involving observations and measurements of selected aspects of the rides. If you have any technical questions, you can find a sponsor in the cafeteria or try the cell phone if we are on rides.
1;45 Meet me at the benches between the Drop Zone and Revelation(see map) for attendance and show me your data. If you can’t find a sponsor, call my cell. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT CHECKING IN, you will get zero on the data.
Bus: Take the 17 downtown walk to Hastings and transfer to the 14 Hastings.
